The Switzerland announced it will spend approximately US$ 406 million on the acquisition of different models of drones for military use.
The Armasuisse, the federal agency responsible for the Swiss army’s logistics, has signed framework agreements with two German companies, Dronesperhour GmbH and Dronivo GmbH, and with the Swiss company Fieldwork AG, which specializes in construction and agricultural equipment. The contracts are valid from 2026 to 2036, but details about the models, components, and additional services have not been disclosed.
According to experts, the agreements allow the purchase not only of commercial drones but also dual-purpose UAVs or versions adapted for government use. Fieldwork AG, for example, has partnerships with manufacturers such as the Chinese DJI and the German Quantum Systems, which broadens the options for supplying advanced technology to the Swiss army.
In addition to drones, Switzerland and Germany plan joint purchases of Patriot air defense systems, aiming to reduce costs, standardize maintenance, and conduct joint military training. The defense ministers of both countries also confirmed the intention to jointly acquire self-propelled artillery systems RCH 155 and multi-role fighter jets F-35A, with possible training of Swiss military personnel at German bases.
